Hanging a 2WayWallpaper mural is a job most people finish in an afternoon. Every mural arrives in numbered panels about 100 cm (40") wide. Follow the guide for your material below, take your time with the first panel, and the rest will fall into place.
Watch the whole process in 45 seconds, then follow the detailed steps below.

Before you start
- Prepare the wall. It should be dry, smooth, clean and free of dust and grease. Fill cracks and holes, sand them flat and let fresh paint or plaster dry completely (usually at least 2–3 weeks for new paint).
- Remove obstacles. Switch off the power and unscrew switch and socket covers.
- Lay out your panels. Unroll them on a clean floor in numbered order and check the pattern lines up before you hang anything.
- Let the material acclimatise. Leave the panels in the room for 24 hours at normal room temperature.
- Mark your first line. Draw a straight vertical line about one panel width from the left edge of the wall. Walls and corners are rarely perfectly straight, so always work from this line, not from the corner.
Peel & stick materials need smooth walls. They are not suitable for rough, textured or freshly painted walls, or for damp rooms with poor ventilation.
Paste-applied materials
For Nonwoven (smooth), Textured and Deluxe Textured. These use the paste-the-wall method: you paste the wall, not the paper.
-
Paste the wall
Roll an even layer of nonwoven wallpaper paste onto the wall, a little wider than one panel. Do one panel at a time so the paste stays wet. -
Hang panel 1
Place panel 1 against your vertical line, leaving about 5 cm (2") of extra at the ceiling and at the skirting. -
Smooth it out
Work from the centre outwards with a brush or spatula to push out air bubbles and excess paste. -
Hang the next panels
Paste the next section and hang panel 2 edge to edge with panel 1 (butt the seams, do not overlap). Line up the pattern and continue in order. -
Trim and clean
Trim the excess at the ceiling and skirting with a sharp knife against a straight edge. Wipe any paste off the surface straight away with a damp sponge. -
Let it dry
Keep the room at a steady temperature and avoid strong heat or drafts for 24–48 hours while the paste dries.
Peel & Stick materials
For Peel & Stick and Peel & Stick Canvas. No paste, no mess, and removable later.
-
Start at the top
Peel back the first 20–30 cm (8–12") of the backing paper. Line panel 1 up with your vertical line, with a little extra at the ceiling. -
Work down slowly
Pull the backing down a little at a time while smoothing the panel from the centre outwards with a spatula to remove air bubbles. -
Reposition if needed
If a panel goes on crooked, gently peel it back and realign it before you press it down firmly. -
Hang the next panels
Line up panel 2 with the edge and pattern of panel 1 and repeat. Panels sit edge to edge. -
Trim the edges
Trim the excess at the ceiling, skirting and around sockets with a sharp knife.
Tips & common mistakes
Do
- Check the panel order and pattern on the floor first.
- Use a fresh blade for every few cuts so edges stay clean.
- Cut around sockets and switches in a small cross, then trim neatly.
- Ask for help with tall walls and long panels.
Avoid
- Starting from a corner instead of a straight vertical line.
- Overlapping panels, which leaves a visible ridge.
- Stretching wet or self-adhesive panels to make them fit.
- Installing a panel you believe is damaged: contact us first.
Removal
- Peel & Stick: lift a top corner and peel slowly downwards at a low angle.
- Nonwoven, Textured and Deluxe Textured: nonwoven materials come off in whole panels when dry. Lift a corner and pull gently; dampen the wall slightly if needed.
